Breakaway are alarmed to discover that some tackle dealers/wholesalers are advertising and selling counterfeit Impact Shields, Lead Lifts and other items of tackle from our range, which are protected by British patent or copyright. Most of this very inferior, dangerous and mostly useless tackle has originated from India and is being offered and sold to unsuspecting tackle dealers and anglers by unscrupulous operators. It is important to stress that any tackle dealers found with these items risk being prosecuted and stocks seized.

Breakaway realize that many successful manufacturers are suffering likewise, by having their products passed off at a fraction of the cost. Since no development costs are incurred and a ready made market already made available through advertising and product testing, only popular, tried and tested products are copied.

Some of Breakaway's other products e.g Coil Crimps, Swivel Tees, Relay Clips and Breakaway Leads are also suffering throughout Europe, although these products are not protected by British patent in Europe, we are protected by copyright as per the Bern convention, which in many cases is more precise than a patent, especially where packaging, instructions, company names and logos are copied. As a company Breakaway's  existence relies upon innovative products, and Breakaway owe it to their customers and themselves to continue to invest and develop products that will improve angling to the advantage of all.

Breakaway must ensure that anglers who ask for Impact Shields, Lead Lifts, Relay clips and Breakaway leads by name, receive the genuine article and not some inferior copy.
