Making your own Saltwater Flasher Flies DIY - Part 3 (Wings)

How to make the wings on your flies...

Below are two patterns for forming the wings on the flies.
Using Lumo Flash wing material is ideal as it gives your flies that extra deadly attraction due to it's luminousity.

Step One
Cut a strip off the Lumo Flash sheet approximately 1cm wide.

Step Two
Fold the strip in half lengthwise.

Step Three
Cut the sheet as shown by the lines in the picture

Step Four
Unfold the wing and you should now have a piece that looks something like this.

Step Five
Place the wing shape on top of your fly with the straight edge placed up to the hook eye and wrap with your thread until it is bound nice and tight.  Whip finish the fly, put some fly tying cement (or nail varnish) on the head and the wings should look something like on the fly shown here.
Experiment with different lengths of wings as desired.

Another wing design - Slightly easier

Step One
Repeat as for step one above by cutting a 1cm strip of wing material and folding in half lengthwise.
Then cut as shown by the lines on the picture.

You will then end up with a shape like this.

Place on top of your fly with the straight edge near the hook eye and wrap with the thread.
Add some fly tying cement (or nail varnish) and it should look something like the wing on the fly shown below.
